Tim Cook Named to President Trump’s American Workforce Policy Advisory Board

The U.S. Department of Commerce today announced the 25 members of the Trump administration’s new American Workforce Policy Advisory Board, including Apple CEO Tim Cook and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty.

The advisory board’s recommendations will help guide the National Council for the American Worker’s efforts to establish a strategy to ensure that American students and workers have access to „affordable, relevant, and innovative education and job training that will equip them to compete and win in the global economy.“

Apple Spent $60B on 9,000 American Suppliers in 2018, Supporting 450K Jobs

Well timed with a report from The New York Times today that explained why Apple is unlikely to manufacture more of its products in the United States, Apple has published a press release highlighting how several components it uses are manufactured by U.S. suppliers such as Finisar, Corning, and Broadcom.

Finisar Apple says it spent $60 billion with 9,000 American component suppliers and companies in 2018, an increase of more than 10 percent from the year before. Apple says this spending supports more than 450,000 jobs in the United States.

Apple’s Latest ‚Shot on iPhone‘ Video Reflects on Life of 17-Year-Old Athlete From American Samoa

Apple has shared a new „Shot on iPhone“ video on its YouTube channel that presents a portrait of Eddie Siaumau, a 17-year-old athlete from American Samoa who has just accepted a full-ride scholarship to a NCAA Division I university.

The small island of American Samoa, nicknamed „Football Island,“ is a U.S. territory in the South Pacific Ocean that reportedly produces athletes who are around 56 times more likely to play in the NFL than Americans from anywhere else, a stat that Apple cites in the description of the video.

iPhone Ownership Among American Teens Remains Steady While Intent to Purchase Grows

American teenagers are still choosing Apple’s iPhone over the competition, with 82 percent of surveyed U.S. teens saying that they own an iPhone, according to Piper Jaffray’s latest survey (via Business Insider).

This number has grown steadily from 76 percent in April 2017 to 78 percent in October 2017, and it now appears to have plateaued temporarily in 2018, as 82 percent of teens said they owned an iPhone back in April.

Looking to the future, 86 percent of teens surveyed said that they plan on buying an iPhone as their next smartphone. This is an increase from 84 percent in the spring.
