Major Apple suppliers in Asia have been cutting their 2019 sales forecasts and some have cited an „extraordinary“ drop in Chinese demand, reports Nikkei.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), which supplies the A-series chips used in the iPhones and other devices, is forecasting a 22 percent drop in revenue for the January to March quarter. TSMC said there was a „sudden drop in demand“ for high-end smartphones, also attributing its revenue decline to the U.S.-China trade war and economic uncertainty.

Apple’s worldwide Mac shipments fell in the fourth quarter of 2018, according to new preliminary PC shipping estimates shared this afternoon by Gartner.
During the quarter, Apple shipped an estimated 4.9 million Macs, down from 5.1 million in the year-ago quarter. Apple’s share of the market grew, however, from 7.1 percent in 3Q18 to 7.2 percent.

Yesterday chipmaker Qualcomm announced that it posted €1.34 billion in security bonds required for the chipmaker to enforce a preliminary injunction on select iPhone models in Germany, after a court in the country found Apple to be infringing Qualcomm patents related to power savings technology in smartphones.
The injunction blocks the import and sale of infringing iPhone models in Germany while Apple appeals the verdict, and accordingly, Apple has now pulled the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus from sale in the country.

In recent weeks, Apple slashed production orders for its latest iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR models due to „lower-than-expected demand,“ among other reasons, according to unnamed sources cited by The Wall Street Journal.
The report claims the production cuts have hit the iPhone XR hardest, with Apple said to have slashed its production plan for the device by „up to a third of the approximately 70 million units“ it had asked some suppliers to produce between September and February, amounting to a reduction of up to 23.3 million units or so.
