Apple’s Craig Federighi Confirms There’s No October Event in the Works

This shouldn’t come as any surprise given that it’s already the 20th of October, but Apple has no plans to hold an event to introduce new products this month. Apple software engineering chief Craig Federighi confirmed there will be no October event in an email to MacRumors reader Luke.

„Will we see an October keynote event?“ Luke asked. „I think we’re all Keynoted out for the season! :-)“ Federighi replied.

Some people were expecting an event to take place this October because there was a Mac-centric event in October of 2016 that saw Apple unveil the Macbook Pro with Touch Bar, but there have been no rumors of a second 2017 [...]

Google Follows Apple’s Lead By Reducing Play Store Fee for App Subscriptions

Google revealed on Thursday that it would follow Apple’s lead in lowering the amount of money app developers must pay for mobile subscriptions processed through the company’s Play Store (via The Verge).

Adoption of the subscription model by iOS developers has increased over recent months, causing some controversy within the app-using community. Apple incentivized developers to sell their apps for a recurring fee instead of a one-time cost when it made changes to its App Store subscription policies in September of last year.

Usually, Apple takes 30 percent of app revenue, but developers who are able to maintain a subscription with a customer longer [...]

Apple’s Mac Mini is Now Three Years Old, No Refresh Date in Sight

Today marks the third anniversary of the last update of the Mac mini, Apple’s most affordable and compact desktop computer. The Mac mini was refreshed on October 16, 2014, and since then, the machine has seen no additional updates.

The Mac mini is positioned as a „bring your own“ machine that comes without a mouse, keyboard, or display, and the current version is still running Haswell processors and integrated Intel HD 5000/Intel Iris Graphics.

Pricing on the Mac mini starts at $499 for the entry-level base configuration, making it far more affordable than the iMac, which starts at $1,099 for a non-4K 21-inch version.

With the [...]

Apple’s Magic Keyboard With Numeric Keypad Now Ships in 6-7 Weeks as Refresh Possible Alongside iMac Pro

Apple’s Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad is now estimated to ship in 6-7 weeks in the United States and several other countries, fueling speculation that a refreshed model could be released alongside the iMac Pro in December.

The extended wireless keyboard was just released alongside WWDC 2017 in June, so any possible update could be relatively minor.

The eject key could be replaced with a dedicated Siri key, for example, given the iMac hasn’t had a built-in SuperDrive for CDs/DVDs since the Mid 2011 model. Siri is located in the same position above the delete key on the Touch Bar.

Apple will be releasing the Magic Keyboard with Numeric [...]
