In 2015 and 2016, Apple aggressively expanded its retail presence in China with 30 new stores, according to the Apple Storefronts tracker. Since the start of 2017, however, Apple has opened just five new locations in the country.
Apple’s newest store in China in Suzhou The Information’s Wayne Ma has shared a report today that offers explanations for the slowdown, including China’s bureaucratic government, scalpers, previously-reported fraud, and increasing competition from Chinese smartphone makers. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi today announced a series of updates and expansions coming to the Uber mobile app, which will provide users with „a great variety of transportation modes“ all in one place.
Uber’s new updates include the ability for customers to gain access to bikes, car rentals, and public transportation tickets, all in addition to the app’s traditional ride-hailing services.
To start, today the company is expanding „Uber Bike by JUMP“ into Washington, DC, following an initial pilot in San Francisco in January.

Apple’s main iPhone manufacturer in India is closing in on a land deal in the tech hub of Bengaluru that will see the firm invest around $157 million to assemble iPhone SE and potentially iPhone 6s models on the site, according to Reuters.
Unnamed Indian government officials on Wednesday reportedly confirmed the Taiwanese contractor’s intentions, which could result in its iPhone SE assembly unit taking over about 100 acres in and around the capital of the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

Today at CES, smart lock maker August announced the expansion of its in-home delivery service „August Access,“ which will roll out in partnership with delivery company Deliv. Similar to Amazon Key, customers who use August’s service will grant Deliv drivers one-time access into their home so that packages aren’t left outside (via TechCrunch).
August’s service will expand upon its previous August Access platform by opening it up to any interested online retailer, allowing users to order products from these stores and select the August Access in-home delivery option.
