Apple Lowers Revenue Guidance for Q1 2019 Citing ‚Fewer iPhone Upgrades‘ Than Anticipated

Apple today published a letter from Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed to Apple investors announcing changes to the guidance for the first fiscal quarter of 2019.

Apple is expecting revenue of approximately $84 billion and gross margin of 38 percent, which is quite a bit lower than the estimate provided in November when fourth quarter earnings were revealed.

At that time, Apple said its guidance included expected revenue of $89 to $93 billion and gross margin between 38 and 38.5 percent. From Cook’s letter:

Apple Expands Availability of Carrier Billing and Lane Guidance in Maps

Apple has expanded carrier billing to TIM in Italy, Bite in Latvia and Lithuania, U Mobile in Malaysia, Singtel and StarHub in Singapore, Sunrise in Switzerland, and O2 in the UK, according to an updated support document.

The payment method enables customers to make purchases in the iTunes Store, App Store, and Apple Books, and pay for an Apple Music subscription, without needing to link a debit or credit card to their Apple ID account. Instead, purchases are added to a customer’s phone bill, and paid in full when due.

Apple Maps Lane Guidance Expands to Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Ireland and Poland

Introduced in iOS 11, lane guidance in Apple Maps is designed to let Maps users know which lane they should be in to avoid missing an upcoming turn or exit.

The lane guidance feature was initially limited to the United States and China when iOS 11 was first released in September, but Apple has been working to expand it to additional countries. Recently, the feature was introduced in Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Poland, and Czech Republic.

Apple Maps Lane Guidance Expands to Austria, South Africa, and Switzerland

In iOS 11, Apple Maps gained a new lane guidance feature, which is designed to let Maps users know which lane they should be in to avoid missing a sudden turn or an exit.

The feature was initially limited to the United States and China, but since the release of iOS 11, Apple has been working to expand it. As of this week, Apple has made lane guidance features available in Austria, South Africa, and Switzerland.
