iMac Pro Compared to 5K iMac and MacBook Pro

MacRumors videographer Dan recently got his hands on the new 8-core iMac Pro, and he decided to compare it to his other machines, a 2015 5K iMac and a 2016 MacBook Pro to see how it measures up when it comes to his everyday video editing workload.

In the video below, Dan takes a look at how well the iMac Pro performs on tasks like editing video, exporting video, and reading and writing data. If you’re wondering whether the entry-level iMac Pro is worth the $5,000 price tag when you’ve already got hardware on hand like an iMac or a MacBook Pro, this video is worth checking out because it might help you make a decision.

iMac Pro is $1,000 Off at Micro Center Stores, Now $3,999 While Supplies Last

Micro Center stores are currently offering the base model iMac Pro for $3,999, a significant $1,000 discount off Apple’s regular price, and by far the lowest price we’ve ever seen for the powerful desktop workstation since it was released a month ago.

Micro Center says the deal is available at its retail stores only and not online. The official Apple Authorized Reseller has 25 locations across the United States, many of which appear to be open this Saturday and Sunday.

iMac Pro Teardown Reveals Modular RAM, CPU and SSD Along With Redesigned Internals

With the iMac Pro now in the hands of customers and available at Apple retail stores, popular repair site iFixit has acquired one of the $4,999 machines and has opened it up to see just what’s inside. iFixit tore down the base iMac Pro model with an 8-core processor, 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD.

iFixit found that the RAM, CPU, and SSDs in the iMac Pro are modular and can potentially be replaced following purchase, but most of the key components „require a full disassembly to replace.“

Standard 27-inch iMacs have a small hatch in the back that allows easy access to the RAM for post-purchase upgrades, but that’s missing in the iMac Pro. Apple [...]
