iPhone users in the United States spent an average of $79 on App Store games and apps in 2018 according to an upcoming Sensor Tower report shared today by TechCrunch.
At $79, the revenue generated per active U.S. iPhone grew 36 percent year over year, up from an average of $58 spent per iPhone in 2017. iPhone users spent about $21 more in 2018 on in-app purchases and paid downloads.
Much of the spending growth came from mobile gaming, with 56 percent of the $79 total average attributed to App Store games.

DirecTV Now today reported that it lost 267,000 subscribers during the fourth quarter of 2018, causing the service to dip from 1.8 million subscribers in Q1 2018 to 1.6 million in Q4 (via TechCrunch). Despite the decline, DirecTV Now is still at the forefront of the streaming TV market, second to SlingTV as of last fall.
In AT&T’s fourth quarter earnings report, the company attributed this loss to the closure of several discount bundles that were heavily featured on the service’s website, and shared online. This includes the popular Apple TV bundle (which expired in June 2018) and a few Roku deals.

Nine out of every ten iPhone users who upgrade their smartphone will stick with the iPhone, a recent survey suggests.
Consumer Intelligence Research Partners surveyed 500 consumers in the U.S. who activated a new or used phone in the final three months of 2018 and found that 91 percent of iOS users upgraded to another iPhone. Android users were also loyal, with 92 percent of respondents upgrading to another Android smartphone.
CIRP said loyalty for both iOS and Android has steadily increased, reaching the highest levels it has ever measured last quarter.

Three and a half months after launch, the iOS 12 operating system is installed on 78 percent of devices released in the last four years, according to updated iOS 12 installation statistics shared on the App Store support page for developers.
Apple now presents iOS data in two ways, offering up installation rates on recent devices and older devices.
While 78 percent of all devices from the last four years are running iOS 12, 75 percent of all devices have the updated installed. 17 percent of users continue to run iOS 11, while five percent of devices released in the last four years run an earlier version of iOS.
