Apple to Invest $390 Million in Finisar, US Maker of iPhone X TrueDepth Camera Lasers

Apple announced on Wednesday its plans to invest $390 million in Finisar Corp, which supplies components for the vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL) found in the iPhone X True Depth camera.

The investment will be used to build a plant in Texas to make more of the chips, and will be financed by Apple’s $1 billion Advanced Manufacturing Fund, which the company created earlier this year to foster innovation and create jobs in the U.S.

‚Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp‘ Downloaded Over 15 Million Times Since Launch

Nintendo’s latest iOS game, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has been downloaded at least 15 million times since it first became available for download last week, according to new download estimates shared by Sensor Tower (via TechCrunch).

At an estimated 15 million downloads within six days, Sensor Tower says Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is Nintendo’s second most successful launch in terms of raw installation numbers. It didn’t garner as many downloads as Super Mario Run, but it did beat out Fire Emblem Heroes.

Comparatively, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp saw fewer downloads than Supercell’s Clash Royale during its first six days of release, [...]

Hackers Stole Data From 57 Million Uber Drivers and Customers, Uber Paid $100K to Hide Attack

Uber suffered a massive data breach last year that exposed the personal data of 57 million customers and drivers, reports Bloomberg. The attack occurred in October of 2016 and included personal information from 50 million Uber riders and 7 million Uber drivers.

Two hackers reportedly accessed a private GitHub repository used by Uber’s software engineers and then used those credentials to breach an Amazon Web Services account that contained an archive of rider and driver information.

Email addresses and phone numbers were stolen from riders, while hackers were able to obtain email addresses, phone numbers, and driver’s license numbers from drivers. Uber [...]
