As noted by 9to5Mac, Haptic Touch can be used to expand notifications on the iPhone XR starting with iOS 12.1.1.
To use this feature, simply tap and hold a notification on the lock screen or in Notification Center for a split second. Telegram received a major update today that includes new in-app notifications and a complete rewrite of the encrypted messaging app in Apple’s Swift coding language, resulting in all-round faster performance and better energy efficiency.

That behavior is set to change in version 2.18.90, released today, with support included for full media previews. On devices with 3D Touch, a hard press on [...]
iOS 12 introduces Notification Grouping, a long-awaited feature that groups all of the notifications from a single app together in one neat bundle that prevents the Lock screen from becoming overly cluttered.
By default, all apps have an „Automatic“ grouped notification setting, which groups up notifications by app, but does so intelligently. For example, if you have multiple iMessage conversations going on with people, the notifications might be grouped by app (Messages) but separated by person.
You can adjust your Notification Grouping settings to turn off grouped notifications entirely or to force your iOS device to sort all incoming notifications [...]
