Apple Ditches Plans for $1 Billion Irish Data Center, Citing Approval Delays

Apple has ditched its plans to build a $1 billion data center in Ireland because of continual delays in the approval process chiefly brought about by planning appeals by local residents (via Reuters).

Apple had been trying to get its $1 billion data center in County Galway, Ireland built for over three years, but has experienced pushback from individuals and organizations highlighting environmental protection issues.

Nintendo’s Next President Sets Mobile Gaming Priority, Plans ‚Game-Changing Hit‘ to Surge Business

Nintendo’s next president, Shuntaro Furukawa, will make smartphone gaming a priority when he takes the helm of the company this June. In a new interview with Nikkei, Furukawa said that he envisions a future where Nintendo’s smartphone gaming arm can become a 100 billion yen ($910 million) business. In fiscal 2017, the segment including mobile games grossed 39.3 billion yen.

J. Cole Breaks Apple Music First-Day Streaming Record as Apple Plans Country Music Push in Nashville

Apple Music has been the focus of numerous record-breaking reports in recent weeks, and the latest comes from rapper J. Cole after he broke the service’s record for most album streams in the first 24 hours in the United States. In total, subscribers streamed J. Cole’s fifth album „KOD“ 64.5 million times on Friday, April 20, surpassing Drake’s „Views“ — the previous record holder — by almost 1 million streams.

Apple Plans to Ditch Intel and Use Custom Mac Chips Starting in 2020

Apple is planning to transition from Intel chips to its own custom made Mac chips as early as 2020, reports Bloomberg.

Apple’s initiative, reportedly code named „Kalamata,“ is part of an effort to make Macs, iPhones, and iPads work „more similarly and seamlessly together“ according to unspecified sources that spoke to Bloomberg. Apple already designs its own A-series chips found in iPhones and iPads.
