Verizon Reportedly Adding Apple Music as Free Perk on Select Unlimited Data Plans [Update: Confirmed]

Verizon subscribers with an iPhone or Android smartphone and a Beyond Unlimited or Above Unlimited data plan will soon have unlimited access to Apple Music at no additional cost, according to documentation obtained by 9to5Mac.

The report claims the free Apple Music subscription is not simply a trial but rather will be offered on an ongoing basis. Verizon’s lower-priced Go Unlimited plan with reduced data speeds will continue to offer a six-month Apple Music trial, as the Beyond Unlimited and Above Unlimited plans currently do.

Apple’s Chipmaking Chief Johny Srouji Reportedly on Intel’s List of Potential CEOs

Intel has been searching for a new CEO since Brian Krzanich resigned nearly seven months ago, and Axios now reports that the chipmaker’s list of candidates includes Johny Srouji, Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies at Apple.

Srouji joined Apple in 2008 to lead development of the A4 chip, the first Apple-designed system-on-a-chip in the iPhone 4, and now oversees custom silicon and hardware technologies including batteries, application processors, storage controllers, sensors silicon, and other chipsets across Apple’s entire product line.

Apple Will Reportedly Launch iPad mini 5 and Entry-Level 10-inch iPad Next Year

Apple is preparing to launch a new fifth-generation iPad mini in the first half of 2019, according to sources in the Apple supply chain cited by the China Times, followed by a new entry-level iPad in two models.

The report, first spotted by Japanese blog Mac Otakara, claims that Apple is preparing to launch the so-called iPad mini 5 in the first half of next year in an attempt to halt a general decline in iPad sales, with mass production expected to start by the end of December.

Apple hasn’t updated its smallest iPad since September 2015, but the device did receive a price cut in March 2017, with a 128GB capacity model costing $399.

Apple Pay Will Reportedly Launch in Germany This Week, Possibly Tomorrow

Apple Pay will make its long-awaited debut in Germany this week, according to German blog Macerkopf.

The report, citing unnamed sources within German banking circles, says the launch will likely occur on Tuesday with mobile bank N26 and Comdirect expected to be among the initial participating issuers in the country.

Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that Apple Pay would launch in Germany by the end of this year back in July. Apple Pay is also listed as „coming soon“ on Apple’s website in Germany, so a launch is to be expected imminently.
