Review: iOttie’s 7.5W iON Wireless Chargers Feature a Simple, Attractive Design

There are hundreds of Qi wireless charging options available on the market, many of which feature the same no-frills plain black circle or square design. You can, for example, find dozens of inexpensive wireless chargers on Amazon at prices as low as $10, but if you’re looking for a more thoughtful, unique design you may need to spend a bit more.

Review: Ring Alarm is a $199 Do-It-Yourself Home Security System That Keeps Things Simple

Last month, Ring began taking pre-orders for its Ring Alarm home security system, and today it begins shipping. I’ve had a chance to spend some time with Ring Alarm, and I’ve found it’s an easy-to-use security system that’s useful with or without professional monitoring.

Priced at $199 for the base kit, the Ring Alarm comes with a base station, a separate keypad, one motion detector, one contact sensor for a door or window, and a range extender to help make sure all of your Ring accessories remain connected to your network.

How to Update macOS Using a Simple Terminal Command

If you’re sick of waiting for the progress bar to complete every time you reboot after a macOS software update, then you’ll be pleased to learn there’s another way to update your Mac that could potentially reduce your downtime.

The process involves a simple Terminal command, and allows you to continue using your Mac as the update downloads and the initial software installation takes place in the background. In our tests, we found that this method was capable of shaving off several minutes of idle time during installation restarts, but that the time-saving depends on the machine and the update in question.
