Apple Became World’s Most Valuable Company Seven Years Ago Today, Two Weeks Before Steve Jobs Resigned as CEO

Today marks the seventh anniversary of Apple passing U.S. oil giant ExxonMobil to become the world’s most valuable company for the first time, with a market capitalization of around $341.5 billion at the time.

Apple achieved the milestone on August 9, 2011, just over two weeks before the late Steve Jobs resigned as CEO on August 24, 2011, the same day that he nominated then-COO Tim Cook to succeed him in the position. Jobs passed away on October 5, 2011, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Lisa Brennan-Jobs Shares Memories of Steve Jobs in New ‚Small Fry‘ Memoir Excerpt

Lisa Brennan-Jobs, Steve Jobs‘ oldest daughter, is releasing a memoir called „Small Fry“ next month, and ahead of the book’s release, Vanity Fair has published an excerpt where Lisa-Brennan Jobs shares details on her troubled relationship with her father, his last days, and her early life.

The interview took place in August of 2008, a month after the launch of the App Store. Even back then, just after its debut, the App Store’s success surprised Jobs, who said Apple hadn’t expected the App Store to „be this big.“ „The mobile industry’s never seen anything like [...]

The First-Ever Apple Store, Introduced by Steve Jobs in 2001, Set to Receive Facelift

The very first Apple Store opened its doors on May 19, 2001, at the Tysons Corner Center shopping mall in McLean, Virginia, near Washington D.C. Now, just over 17 years later, those doors may soon close temporarily.

Apple Tysons Corner Planning documents filed with the Department of Planning and Zoning in Fairfax County, Virginia this month, viewed by MacRumors, reveal that Apple plans to make significant interior alterations to the store, with demolition work involved, suggesting that the location is set to receive a facelift.
