Apple’s Hardware Tech Chief Johny Srouji to Speak at Carnegie Mellon Next Week

Johny Srouji, Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies at Apple, will speak at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh next week.

The university’s School of Computer Science today announced that Srouji will attend a distinguished industry lecture on Monday, September 18 at the Rashid Auditorium, where he will speak at 5:00 p.m. local time.

Apple CEO Tim Cook Visits Capital Factory Tech Incubator in Austin

Apple CEO Tim Cook has arrived in Austin, Texas, the latest destination on his mini trip around the United States the week.

Photo: Capital Factory Cook started his day by visiting the Capital Factory tech accelerator and incubator in downtown Austin, where he met with local developers and entrepreneurs like Joah Spearman, the co-founder of local travel recommendation app Localeur, and Whitney Wolfe, the founder of popular dating app Bumble.

France and Germany Prepare Crackdown on Tax Loopholes With Tech Companies Like Apple in Sights

France and Germany are looking to stop tech companies like Apple from exploiting tax loopholes in their respective countries. The loopholes are said to have allowed Apple to „minimize taxes and grab market share“ at the expense of Europe-based companies.

France will draft and propose a list of „simpler rules“ that will be aimed at creating a „real taxation“ law for non-European companies, which also include Amazon and Facebook (via Bloomberg).

The new rules will be looked at in September during a meeting of European Union officials, which French finance minister Bruno Le Maire hopes will help speed up Europe-wide initiatives [...]
